Thursday night

Well, we have some good news finally.
The Doc says the blood says that the Sutent is not damaging the heart and liver.
Of course these are early days.

It is also good news that the Sutent is not amplifying the side effects of Timsirolimus; those diseases are still with me but it gives some hope that they will subside.

The Doc told a story of a patient who used Sutent for years, on and off, and when he died, the cancer was still growing; but slowed down by Sutent, he made it to 95.

So we are a cautiously more hopeful today.

Best to you all,

Wednesday night

Sutent is better today.
I can stand the light.
My eye is less blurry.
When is TMI reached
(and for whom?)

Tomorrow the oncologist will see how the heart and liver are reacting.

Cheerio.

Tuesday night

Is Sutent pushing its puissant potentials to actuality?
What is Sutent doing with the diseases that Timsirulimus left behind?

Fatigue, cold and aching, especially headaches.
Most of the time I have to hide in the darkness.

So in goes.

Sunday night

I am pleased to report that the Sutent still has not turned nasty.

Each day is a reprieve.

There may not be anymore medical news this week.   Let's hope so.

I won't have my checkup until next Thursday.

If you want to communicate/converse with me use my email.

Aloha,

Saturday night

This is day three of the Sutent and all's well.
Makes us wonder if we are taking enough.
But of course we are thankful for the reprieve.
Next Thursday, they test for damage.

Adios,

No adverse reaction to Sutent.  That';s the main thing.  So far, so good.

Only had to push a little bit to get some medication refilled.
And drive a ways to get a kit to monitor my breathing at night.
Learned how to check my own blood sugars.

Ciao.

Thursday 24 January 2013, 6:30pm

Sutent acquired.  Looks like it is usually called Sunitinib.  It's rare: the pharmacist knew nothing about it and had no advice except to read the pamphlet.  It's expensive: over $5000 for a month's worth but I have insurance.

There was a long list of nasty side effects, starting with nausea and ending with the lawyerly "This document does not contain all possible interactions", which I read as Wealth protecting Wealth.

No matter: down the hatch.  Except for a little heart burn, a slightly elevated pulse, I have no adverse reaction.

Today's reading: Siddhartha Mukherjee's The Emperor of all Maladies, a history of cancer and cancer research.  We are fortunate to be here today; we will be fortunate to be here tomorrow.

Wednesday 23 January 2013

For Phase III of this pRCC
[papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma]
I'm making a blog, inspired by my sister-in-law and her cancer blog.

Phase I was the nephrectomy.
Phase II was Temsirolimus.
Phase II is over. Temsirolimus was not shrinking anything and gave me many diseases.
Phase III is Sutent, an oral form of chemo.
If you want more on Sutent go to MedlinePlus http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/
and search for "Sutent".  MedlinePlus is a great place to start looking for health information.  [See what comes from working in medical libraries for 11 years?]

If you want more from me, well, come back or email me.
My life has always been strange and so I wonder if it isn't no more strange now.
I wonder about probabilities and actualities and how one seems futuristic and the other must be past.
Well, enough for now. [That's the now between that past and that future]

Perhaps this will be a better way for me to communicate than my emails.  Perhaps not. Who or what arbitrates?
Oh, Sutent is supposed to start tomorrow.  Of course it is toxic.  It especially targets the heart and the liver.  The doc just said they would monitor both closely.
So it goes.
